Shandrani Beachcomber Resort and Spa – Possibly the best all inclusive hotel in Mauritius

Photos do it no justice and words cannot describe just how beautiful this hotel is and how the customer experience is up among the best we’ve experienced. Only a 10 minute transfer from the airport means that you’ll be in the pool enjoying a nice cold drink within an hour of landing in Mauritius.

Being close to the airport does mean that you’ll see aircraft flying overhead. While we were at the Shandrani, we saw and heard aircraft take off SIX times during the day and when sat in our room, we heard nothing. Flights stop after 10.30pm and we never heard another flight until 11am the following morning. So don’t be put off by claims you read on travel websites about noise.

The swimming pool and one of the beaches is in front of the hotel and sits in a lagoon. The water is crystal clear and gently laps onto the shore in a melodic manner. Merely 200 metres along from the main swimming pool sits an area that caters for water sports and the more adventurous holidaymaker. Here the water is a little more animated but still comfortable to swim in and after a relaxing dip in the sea, you can then use one of the bars and or restaurants for a light lunch.

Another 200-300 metres long the coast is the Wild Beach and it is one of the most spectacular on the island that we’ve seen. The waves crash onto the shore but not in a manner that stops you from swimming, however there is a strong under current and so maybe not suitable for young children.

Their is a beach service available and it passes by every 25-30 minutes, stocked with light snacks, soft drinks etc.

The restaurants are very good and the food is of the highest standard. The service rivals anything in a 5 star hotel and the attention to detail is very good too. The entertainment for the nights we were there was a band and they were very good, finishing at 11pm so as not to disturb the neighbouring suites. The bars remain open on all inclusive until 11.30pm and close at 12.30am. The bars are well stocked and host a large selection of quality wines from around the world, we believe there is 47 wines on offer at the present time and increasing!!

Premium spirits are also available on the Serenity Plus all inclusive package, with the exception of three brands, and so there’s something for everyone.

The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with two adults and a child easily being able to move around their 50m2 suite without having to climb over each other. The Senior Suites are even bigger and accommodates bigger families and if that’s not big enough the hotel can interlink rooms to house a family of four adults and four children with ease. The minibar is packed full of drinks and on the Serenity Plus all inclusive package, the minibar is restocked every day free of charge and so you can empty the minibar, take the drinks with you to the beach and know that when you return the minibar will be full again.

Nothing to too much effort for the staff. It comes across as though they are challenging their guests to find something wrong so that they can prove just how good they are at customer service. The management are excellent and you don’t get the feeling that they bully their staff, unlike some hotels on the island. Every staff member we met had a genuine smile on their face and wanted to help.

We like this hotel and think that it suits young couples looking for a busy, lively resort with lots of things to do. It will also suit older holidaymakers who want to eat well, enjoy the sun and do so in a relaxing and calm environment.
