Extreme Day trip to Reykjavik

By Global Travel Worldwide

On the 6th of December I set off for my first ever Extreme Day Trips with the MD. I booked our flights, about a months advance, 06:00am flight out returning at 20:20pm, flying with EasyJet from Manchester. We landed at about 9am in Keflavik airport, straight to the bus terminal, which was just outside the airport, and caught the Fly Bus, which cost £48 return. The transfer takes around 45-60 minutes depending on traffic.

Once we arrived in Reykjavik we walked just across the road to a garage shop to grabbed a coffee and used the WI-FI to get our Google maps to discover more about the city centre. The city centre was only about a 10-15 minute walk from the bus terminal.

Our first stop was the Hallgrimskirkja church as it was on route to the centre. It was magnificent. Truly a top attraction to view in Reykjavik, you will not be disappointed! You can go inside the church for ISK 1000.

We then walked down to the bay as we could see the great views from afar, this was such a surreal feeling. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a stunning view in my life it was truly incredible. The photos really don’t do it enough justice!

After that we walked up to all the shops to grab something to eat and buy some souvenirs. We popped into the Tourist info shop to get recommendations and would highly recommend doing this! They were lovely, answered all of our questions and gave us a really nice authentic restaurant to try Icelandic food. They also gave us a map of Reykjavik and recommended a route to follow. When we got to the restaurant she recommended, I decided to be brave and try some Icelandic foods! Like Whale fin on crumpets.

We then went down to visit the Sun Voyager, the Sun Voyager really shocked me! I was not expecting it to be as big as it was. It also overlooks the bay, so it’s perfect opportunity for photos!

Next up was to walk up the Rainbow street and a look at the shops for more souvenirs and snacks. Again, perfect street for photos.

Finally, we had a look at the pond and ice skating rink, as it was part of our journey back to the bus terminal to catch the Fly Bus, it was just a short 15 minute walk. The Fly Bus can get quite busy so I recommend getting there at least 20 minutes before to ensure you get a seat.

Overall, I would 100% recommend this experience! It was quite pricey and we were incredibly lucky with the weather while we were there. Definitely wrap up warm, it was around -4 degrees.

Everything is within walking distance. It was truly an amazing experience!
